2026 Sardinia Sustainability Summit 

 

The second edition of the Sardinia Sustainability Summit will take place on 5 June, 2026, in Monserrato (Cagliari). The event is promoted by the University of Cagliari on the occasion of the World Environment Day, within the framework of the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development (RUS)

Closing the loop: waste, energy, and mobility in a synergistic systemUniversities’ experiences through the work of the RUS and their contribution to the territory” is the title of the event, dedicated to the role of Universities, institutions, and industry professionals in implementing circular economy principles and developing sustainable solutions with concrete local impacts. 

The day will start with the inauguration of the rose garden dedicated to Lilli Collu (a pharmacologist who passed away prematurely). The morning session will continue with institutional greetings, followed by contributions from the national Coordinators of the RUS Working Groups: Eleonora Perotto (Politecnico di Milano) for the Resources&Waste WG, Marco Raugi (University of Pisa) for the Energy WG, and Bruno Dalla Chiara (Politecnico di Torino) for the Mobility WG. After there will be a speech from the RUS President, Carmine Trecroci (University of Brescia). 

In the afternoon, the focus will shift to the Sardinian regional context, with the participation of members from institutions, the Ministry, ISPRA, CONAI, and local administrations and businesses. Key topics will include waste managementsustainable mobility, by-products valorization, material recovery, and the circular economy in the agro-industrial sector

The event will conclude with a guided tour of the Monserrato Campus, along with workshops on environmental topics presented by students from De Sanctis Deledda high school.
